“Indiana’s legal battle against PFAS contamination just got a little more complicated.

The state’s ongoing lawsuit against 22 chemical giants that could reap massive monetary damages for decades of PFAS contamination hit a roadblock when two of the defendants formed what appeared to be a shell company, according to the office of Indiana Attorney General Todd Rokita.

Estimating that the two companies could rely on this new entity to shield $40 billion from being included in future payouts, Rokita and his counterparts in 16 other states and territories are now challenging the transfer in court.

The saga dates back to 2024, when Rokita took a hard stand against PFAS, colloquially referred to as ‘forever chemicals,’ in a lawsuit that alleged 22 companies knew the risks of PFAS but continued to manufacture the chemicals.”…
