“PORTSMOUTH — U.S. Air Force representatives are scheduled to meet with the Pease Restoration Advisory Board (RAB) at a public meeting Wednesday night.
The meeting will begin at 6:30 p.m. in Room 122 of Great Bay Community College at Pease International Tradeport.
The Air Force formed the RAB after the city closed the Haven well, one of three municipal wells located at the former Air Force base. Portsmouth closed the well after the Air Force found perfluorooctane sulfonic acid, or PFOS, at levels dramatically higher than what was then the Environmental Protection Agency’s provisional health advisory…
During Wednesday’s meeting, RAB members are scheduled to receive updates on water treatment activities at Pease, according to an agenda provided by the Air Force…
RAB members are also expected to hear updates about the cleanup of other contaminated sites at Pease, including the former Pan Am hangar.
Testing For Pease co-founder and environmental activist Andrea Amico said she is hoping to find out if she’s been selected to fill an opening on the RAB.
‘If I become a member that will give me the ability to ask questions in real time,’ Amico said Tuesday. ‘What has been happening is the public comment session is at the end of the meetings and there’s a 3-minute time limit, which isn’t enough time for me to ask my questions and get answers. My goal in being a RAB member is to be more participatory in the process.’
She also wants to make sure the charcoal filtration system being used to treat the city’s Harrison and Smith wells at Pease is ‘filtering out all the PFAS chemicals, not just PFOS and PFOA.’
‘I want them to keep monitoring to see if the carbon filtration is the most effective technology to use (for capturing PFAS chemicals),’ Amico said.”
