“Governor Gretchen Whitmer last week declared September 21-25, 2026 Michigan’s first ever PFAS Awareness Week. The multi-day event will have a lasting impact on the thousands of Michigan residents who participated in discussions, local tours, and several state-wide educational webinars. The idea of having an awareness week was raised by the Michigan PFAS Action Response Team’s Citizen Advisory Workgroup (CAWG).  CAWG members worked hard to plan events to reach as broad an audience as possible.

In-person events around the state included panel discussions, viewings of two movies Dark Waters and No Defense: The U.S. Military’s War on Water, and other presentations. Participants had an opportunity to tour the Plainfield Township Water Treatment Plant and to see a PFAS treatment system called the PFASigator.

In addition, the Michigan PFAS Action Response Team (MPART) hosted three webinars throughout the week – PFAS and You, PFAS and Fish, and Michigan’s Response to PFAS. Nearly 1,000 people attended these webinars. PFAS research was highlighted during presentations at Michigan State University and Western Michigan University.”…
