“A federal inquiry into ‘forever chemicals’ has recommended the government pursue legal action against the manufacturers of firefighting foams containing PFAS that have been used in Australia.
The ABC can reveal that in 2023 then-emergency services minister for Victoria Jaclyn Symes intervened to stop Fire Rescue Victoria (FRV) from participating in a class action litigation against global chemicals manufacturer 3M over the environmental impacts of PFAS.
Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) are a class of almost 15,000 synthetic chemicals used commonly in heat-resistant products, including firefighting foams dubbed ‘light water’ created by 3M.” …
