“The city of Cadillac is facing new challenges in its ongoing battle against PFAS contamination in its water supply. During a recent meeting, the Local Development Finance Authority (LDFA) expressed concerns about the status of monitoring wells, which are crucial for assessing the extent and severity of the contamination.
According to city officials, five monitoring wells are currently inaccessible. Some have been paved over, filled in, or are missing entirely. The LDFA has authorized Jeff Dietlin, Cadillac’s Director of Utilities, to explore alternatives, which may include utilizing nearby wells or drilling new ones to replace those that are missing.
The city revealed that its well-monitoring program has been out of compliance for the past four years. Jeff Dietlin said, ‘These were just monitoring wells. I mean I am a little concerned that if they are taking all the service that they are closed correctly because each well has a potential of contaminating the aquifer down below.'” …
