“Kennewick officials have detected concerning levels of PFAS chemicals in the city’s drinking water, prompting action to address the contamination before federal compliance deadlines.

Water samples taken on March 4 from the Ranney Collector source showed PFAS levels exceeding Washington’s State Board of Health state action level, according to city officials. These chemicals, commonly referred to as ‘forever chemicals’ due to their persistence in the environment and human body, have raised health concerns nationwide.

The city conducts water quality testing on a quarterly basis as part of its regular monitoring program. This routine testing identified the elevated PFAS levels at one of Kennewick’s water sources.” …
