“COLUMBIA — South Carolina environmental groups are suing a Columbia manufacturer for allegedly pumping dangerous ‘forever chemicals’ into the Saluda River, threatening drinking water supplies used by West Columbia and Cayce.
The Southern Environmental Law Center, on behalf of the Congaree Riverkeeper, sued Shaw Industries, a carpet manufacturer that owns a 470-acre plant located on St. Andrews Road near Seven Oaks Park, which SELC claimed is responsible for the contamination. The facility has been producing fiber and nylon chips used in carpets since 2005.
The lawsuit comes three months after the same organizations sent Shaw a letter of intent to sue if they didn’t address the alleged pollution.”…
