“The government says it has identified a local factory that is to blame for significantly increased levels of perfluorinated chemicals found in tap water in Daegu.

The Ministry of Environment revealed on Friday that it tracked down the factory as the main source of the chemicals in the river last month and took measure so it would not discharge the same material again. It added that the emission of perfluorohexane sulfonic acid(PFHxS) from the workplace stopped completely on June 12th.

There has been heightened public concern over the quality of tap water since recent media reports, based on a survey from Pusan National University, found tap water in Daegu contained five times the concentration of perfluorinated compounds compared to tap water in Seoul.”
