“Researchers from the Australian National University will be in town next week as part of their $2 million study into the health risks of living with PFAS on behalf of the Federal Government.
ANU is coordinating Phase II of the epidemiological project — Per- and poly-fluoroalkyl substances (PFAS): an epidemiological study—in Oakey, Queensland, Williamtown, New South Wales and Katherine.
The Research School of Population Health and external collaborators are conducting the PFAS Health Study under contract to the Federal Department of Health.
The ANU runs focus group discussions to collect their research.
Participants will receive a $50 cash voucher on the completion of the discussion.
The ANU will present its PFAS Health Study to Katherine at a ‘community consultation’ to be held on Thursday from 6.30pm-7.30pm at Knott’s Crossing.
The focus groups are described as ‘an opportunity… to discuss issues related to living in a PFAS investigation area and to shape the direction of the next phase of our research’…
Feedback from the study groups will feed into the study into the effects of PFAS chemicals.

The Federal Health Department, Department of Defence and others will be in Katherine next week for a community update on PFAS at Knotts Crossing on Monday from 5pm.
Most groups, including the ANU, will also provided updates from a temporary shopfront at Katherine Shopping Centre next week.”
