Albany, NY- New York’s Department of Environmental Conservation finalized a rule adding to the state’s list of hazardous substances the toxic chemicals that have poisoned the City of Newburgh’s primary water supply and private wells in the towns of New Windsor and Newburgh.

Perfluorooctane sulfonate, or PFOS, and perfluorooctanoic acid, or PFOA, will now be regulated as hazardous substances along with two other variants of the chemicals, the DEC announced on Friday.
