Contamination source: Toxic sludge from the Kennebunk and Ogunquit sewer districts and fly ash/sludge from the S.D. Warren paper mill were spread as “soil enhancers” on Stoneyridge Farm in the mid-1980s.
The contaminated Kimball well was taken offline and the dairy farmer who used the well stopped selling his milk. The farmer is working with the state to get approval for re-opening his dairy farm, has installed a $20,000 carbon filter, and bought new, uncontaminated cows.
