Huron Shores Regional Water Authority, Tawas, MI

Suspected contamination source: unknown.

Tawas’ Huron Shores Regional Water Authority (HSRWA) is being considered as the alternative drinking water source for properties affected by the Wurtsmith Air Force Base PFAS plume. DEQ staff sampled the HSRWA in December 2015, confirming PFOA presence.

The DEQ conducted additional sampling in June-October 2016, informing the public of the results. PFOS and PFOA concentrations were consistently below 70 ppt. The HSRWA will continue quarterly monitoring until they can demonstrate PFAS levels are consistently below 70 ppt.
