Suspected source: DuPont/Chemours Fayetteville Works facility making on the Cape Fear River
After a Wrightsville Beach water supply well tested positive for GenX at 28 ppt, it was taken out of service as officials assessed the situation and planned for additional well testing.
The affected well is located near a CFPUA Aquifer Storage and Recovery well (ASR), which receives water pumped from the CFPUA system for later use. Investigations have indicated that the water that CFPUA put into the ASR system flowed into the aquifer where Wrightsville Beach draws its water. The Cape Fear River and the CFPUA have been dealing with GenX contamination stemming from Chemours’ Fayetteville Works facility.
