“As climate change accelerates, it intensifies wildfire seasons across Canada. Wildfires cause not only environmental devastation, but also a growing public health crisis — as communities face the toxic consequences of wildfire smoke and firefighting chemicals.
This is not just a symptom of the climate crisis — wildfires are also being fuelled by decisions governments and industry have made about how to manage forests and fight flames.
This summer, air-quality warnings have already been issued across much of Central Canada, Manitoba and Saskatchewan, Ontario and Quebec. Environment Canada advised residents in some areas to limit time outdoors and watch for symptoms of smoke exposure.” …
