“City officials have launched an investigation into the presence of PFAS, per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances also known as forever chemicals, after they were found in 2024 at the Salem-Willamette Valley Airport.

Testing will include locations that have been historically used for firefighting foam testing and training, like the Salem Fire Department’s Station 6 on-site training area.

PFAS are used in manufacturing to help products resist heat, water and oil. They are found in nonstick cookware, cosmetics, packaging and water-resistant clothing.” …
