“A municipal water authority in Adams County has issued a notice to its customers about elevated levels of one of the many substances commonly known as ‘forever chemicals.’

The East Berlin Area Joint Authority issued a public notice to its customers on Jan. 24, 2025, that informed customers that recent sample testing has shown that the water system exceeded the maximum contaminant level (MCL) for perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA).

In the notice, the authority states that samples from one of the authority’s wells resulted in an annual average level of PFOA of 20 nanograms per liter, meaning 20 parts per trillion. That level exceeds Pennsylvania’s MCL for PFOA, which is 14 parts per trillion.” …
