“Residents of the Village of Maine have filed a lawsuit against 3M alleging the company’s operations led to the contamination of their private wells, causing significant health problems while putting them at risk for disease and diminishing their property values.
The suit claims 3M’s Greystone Facility, located about a mile from the village, has been a source of contamination with per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), including perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA) and perfluorooctanesulfonic acid (PFOS), for decades.
These chemicals, often used in industrial and manufacturing processes, were allegedly present in roofing granules and other materials disposed of at the site. Recent reports from the facility showed PFAS levels significantly above safe thresholds, with PFOA measured at 210 parts per trillion (ppt) and PFOS at 310 ppt.”…
