Pentagon seeking to incinerate ‘forever chemicals’ at plant on Ohio River

EAST LIVERPOOL, Ohio —The Pentagon is planning to incinerate so-called forever chemicals at a plant in Ohio that is upwind from Western Pennsylvania.

The East Liverpool site is one of two incinerators nationwide where the Pentagon is hoping to ship thousands of pounds of PFAS, also known as forever chemicals. The chemicals have been linked to cancer, thyroid disease and birth defects.

Eddie Moorehead lives a half mile from the Heritage Thermal Services incinerator in East Liverpool.
